It’s Tuesday! So that means I’m teaming up with Tuesdays on The Run! Come join us as we dish about all things running related. And be sure to check out all the other bloggers because they’re awesome.
There are MANY of us training for fall races right now. And fall races are THE BEST. The weather is typically good, the holiday stress hasn’t started, and a good time is had by all.
What’s NOT so great is that it still feels like summer for most of us, and the mileage is getting up there, and it’s almost the end but not so to the end that we can taper yet and we are getting . . .
Tired of running.
I am, thankfully, not there this time(let’s face it, that’s mostly because my training really barely started!) but for some of you, it’s stick a fork in me I’m done time. Here’s what I do when the road before me seems impossible and I wonder why I ever signed up to do this stupid thing in the first place:
Don’t run. I mean it. Take 3 even 4 days off. Typically that’s all I need to feel like running again and when you’re burned out you’re far more prone to injury, so taking a mini training break may be just what you need!
Mix it up! Run somewhere new. With someone new. Who isn’t your pace. For a lot of us, the mileage gets monotonous because we’re running in the SAME place with the SAME people (or by ourselves) all the time. You are a creative soul so MIX IT UP! Always run alone? Find a group or a friend! Always run on the road? Try a trail run! Always run in the morning? Run at . . .oh for heaven’s sake, you get the idea. Variety is the spice of life and without it your training just gets plain old boring.
Quit. Yup. That’s what I typed. Just quit. I mean, really, you’ve only put in, what, 10 weeks into this thing? Nobody is making you run it. You PAID for the registration for Pete’s sake! If you don’t want to do it, just don’t! It’s the opposite of the Nike ad.
Wait, what? That’s crazy? You set out to do this and you’re going to do it and your’e not going to let some stupid blogger get in your way?
That a girl (or boy). Now go running, you big whiny diaper baby.
My friends help me stay on track because running is social time for me. Even at 5:15 on Tuesday and Thursday mornings when I REALLY don’t want to go run.
Peep accountability is the BEST. They’ll do the butt kicking for you! Love that!
Haha! I was like what is she saying, quit?
Whew. Had me there for a second!
See what I did there;). Thanks for reading!!
Haha, love the end of this post!!
I try to vary my routes often, especially for long runs. The miles just drag on and on if I don’t have something new to look at!
I feel the same way! I’m cautious not to run my favorite routes too often – don’t want them to get old!
Paying the money already for a race is a great motivator to get out there and train. I’m not letting it go to waste.
So true! I like to think I’ll run even if I’m not registered for a race. But I don’t!
I get bored with running routes easily so I’m a big fan of mixing things up to keep it interesting!
I especially love to run in new places when I’m traveling! Can be tricky to be sure I’m in a safe place, but hotels have gotten really good about mapping out good running trails.
whiny diaper baby… spoken like a true boy mom. lol!!!
I think I shall make it my mantra . . . .
