Week 12 Marathon Training Update! Meh

How was your week? I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by people you love!

It’s CHRISTMASTIME! Love the way our front porch turned out.
Quick reminder that today is Small Business Saturday! If you can shop at your local retailers today instead of the big box stores, you will be keeping your tax dollars in your community and blessing some hard working entrepreneurs who rely on your business to stay afloat. And you might find some unique items and see your neighbors!
This week was less than spectacular but good enough. And yes, that has become a theme. I have got to stop just barely completely these training weeks. Every training plan allows for a few missed workouts, but I’m dancing close to the edge of acceptable and have used all of my passes:).
I’m not even going to do a day by day because it will depress me, but I really only ran 3X – a run/walk of 3 miles on Tuesday, a 6 mile run on Wednesday, and a 10 miler today (would have been longer but all the rich food I’ve been eating got to my stomach. Boo). All were OK pace wise – today was actually great until it wasn’t – and I’m feeling strong just having hard time with motivation and discipline to actually get out there and do it!
Because the thing no one tells you is that training for a marathon is actually a pretty boring thing to do. Sure, there are moments of victory and some fun miles when you feel yourself getting stronger and your body adapting. But the majority of it is just hard work and lots and lots of time on the road. And it gets old.
But this isn’t my first rodeo, and I’m actually feeling good about where I am.
Oh, I got new shoes! They are basically the same as the Merrell’s I’ve been in but they are the model meant for trail and longer runs so a bit more cushioning. Loved them today!!

We are also slowly but surely getting Christmas up around here and it’s starting to feel very festive! It’s such a fun time of the year and marathon training or no, I’m determined to enjoy every bit of it!
We’ve had some good rain and finally this creek on my run was flowing. So pretty!
Next weekend, I’m up for 19 miles. Gonna work really hard to not let that get in my head. Only two REALLY long runs left and we’re done with this training – going to do my best to finish strong!
Have a great week, Everyone, and HAPPY RUNNING!
Jen
