Saturdays with Scott

As many Saturdays as we can swing it, I will be posting Saturdays with Scott, joint posts done with my awesome husband of 25 years. He’s been my best friend since I was 18 and we’ve been on this path of running and fitness together for about 4 years. Enjoy! If there’s something specific you’d like us to tackle in an upcoming installment, please put it in the comments below!

Jen: OK, Husband of Mine, first off I want to say thank you for agreeing to do this. I love that we are both so committed to fitness and I think you have a lot to add to this conversation.

Scott: You’re welcome.* (editors note: well, we’re off to a great start, yes?;)

Jen: So are we done now or do you have something you’d like to say?

Scott: Well, I’m still a huge running fan for all the same reasons that I talked about in the first post you made me do (Losing 80 Pounds in 80 Days). However, I’m currently branching out into some other interesting things and am training for my first Olympic Triathlon (approx. a 1 mile swim, a 25 mile bike ride and a 10K). I’m also doing some new strength work including suspension training that a buddy turned me on to and I’m finding it’s working great. Really effective in a very short period of time.

Jen: If you could say one thing to the guy reading this (or the wife of the guy reading this) on what it’s meant to you to take your health seriously what would it be?

Scott: A friend recently told me “It’s really not about checking a box just to stay a certain weight or be a certain size. It’s about staying athletic as you get older. Being athletic means you have the ability, at any age, to go out and run a 10K or play a game of tennis or hike a mountain.” I want to be able to go out and body surf with my grown sons and their kids when I’m 80. When I go, I want to go out on my feet. We can’t control all of that. But there’s a lot we can do.

Jen: So, based on that, tell them what you talked me into this morning.

Scott: We’re doing the Star Wars Half Marathon, Baby! The secret sauce for me in staying motivated is having a goal out there. I like Star Wars, I like inaugural races, you love Disney, and I need something on the calendar for January. So there you go.

Jen: Yeah, I never thought YOU would be convincing ME that we needed to do another Disney race.

Scott: Yeah, I like the idea of having something to look forward to that requires you to be in shape or you WON’T have fun. If I’ve paid my money, I’m GOING to be ready when the time comes.

Happy Running!

* I told him he needed to say something nice about me here. He said, I’m doing this blog, that’s enough. He’s such a charmer.
