Only Human

That song (by Christina Perri) won’t stop playing and replaying in my head. And every time it comes on the radio, I start to cry.

I’m only human. And I bleed when I fall down. I’m only human. And I crash and I break down.

I’m there, Friends. I’ve been there for awhile, in fact. And like always when I’m vulnerable, I don’t share to whine or to complain or to garner sympathy. I share this because you may be there, too. You might be crashing and breaking down. And you might think you’re alone. And that would be a lie. And we’re both too amazing to listen to lies.

“Though the fig tree should not blossom, and there be no fruit on the vines, though the yield of the olive should fail, and the fields produce no food, though the flock should be cut off from the fold and there be no cattle in the stalls . . . . YET I will exult in the Lord, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.” Habakuk 3:17 – 18

Two things there. 1. I always have to look in the table of contents of my bible to find Habakuk and 2. yup. That. That’s me. Right. Now.

I don’t know what your no food, flock cut off, no cattle situation is. But whatever is, I’m praying over all of us hope today. And no masks. And no pretending we’re fine when we’re not. I could say a lot of helpful things here but I will refrain. I can tell you that I’m meeting with my counselor and reaching out to friends and working it through. And I don’t know how long it will take.

But I know I’m not alone. And I know you’re not alone. And I know that when we can worship through the tears like that awesome old testament prophet did, we can see glimmers of what can be and less of what is.

Because we’re only human.

Hang in there. And Happy Running. And being human.

    1. tough, right? But, as a good friend of mine who struggles daily with mental illness says, “this too shall pass.” It always does. Love and prayers headed your way, too!

  1. Yep, that’s me too, especially in one particular area of my life. Thank you for the reminder, the verse, and the sharing together in our struggles. It’s so good to know we’re not alone!
