OK I Need A Happy Post!!

Friends, it’s been a tough week, there’s no getting around it. Since last weekend when I sat here chatting about Dumbo Double Dare training, we’ve had my sweet mom-in-law checked out of in patient rehab after a broken hip and got her set up at home and had our youngest undergo minor out-patient surgery (which although minor, did require several hours in the hospital and him being put under so I’m not a fan). Work and friends wise it was a tough week, too, as our church family lost a beloved wife and mom way too soon, and a dear friend got a cancer diagnosis. Add to that my sweet husband being oversees for most of the week and it’s been a tough one.

Pre-Surgery and cool as a cucumber. That’s my boy!

So I need some happy!! Because despite all of the above, I know that God loves me, that He is in control, and that we’re gonna get through this together. My favorite song this week has been Carry On by FUN. Love the lyrics:

If you’re lost and alone
Or you’re sinking like a stone.
Carry on.
May your past be the sound
Of your feet upon the ground.
Carry on.

And carry on I shall! And if you’re reading this and you’ve had your own week of challenge and heartache and pain, you will, too. Literally while I was typing this update, my great friend, Laurel, showed up at the door with a “Bag of Sunshine” just for me and her timing was (as always) PERFECT!! Laurel is no stranger to tough weeks and knew I was having one and is the kind of friend who doesn’t wait for you to ask, she just does. I love those kinds of friends and I need to become more of that kind of friend myself!!

And the truth is, we have much to look forward to!! So I’m turning a page and choosing to hope and not dispair today and I hope you’ll join me. If you’re coming to run with me at Disneyland you need to know that in my down moments this week, this race weekend coming up really got me through. So let’s focus on that, shall we? And just let the ridiculous crapiness of this week stay where it belongs – in last week!!

The official race program is up (http://as1.wdpromedia.com/media/rundisney/pdf/disneyland-half/2013/DLHM13_Program.pdf) and that’s always a sure sign that we’re getting REALLY close. In fact, just four weeks from today, I’ll be running a 10K at the Happiest Place on Earth and that’s FOR SURE something to get happy about.

Took a bit of a dip in my mileage this week and only did 6 miles today instead of 10 (didn’t want to be away from the kid too long since I’m the only authorized adult in the country) but next week I’ll try to get some high mileage done before we head to my mom’s on Friday for a week in Arizona. Here’s to a more peaceful week where we can all take a breath and CARRY ON!!

Happy Running!

Jen
