Mars and Venus Pack for The Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend

Greetings from my dining room! This is a work from home day for me so I need to stop blogging and start working but wanted to give a quick update on where we are in our prep for the Disney World Marathon Weekend!

You can see my previous post here where I talked about my planning and packing for marathon weekend this year. It’s an exhaustive list and filled with nuance and details that CANNOT be overlooked. I must make my lists and check them twice (no not like Santa;) and the whole ordeal takes hours and hours. And I’ve also talked extensively about my stomach issues and how I’ve had to experiment with a million different things for race day (currently VERY happy with my discovery of EnergyBits! you can read my review of those here)

Scott, on the other hand, has an iron stomach AND packs like this.

Him: Hey, I’m gonna get packed.

Five minutes later.

Him: OK. All done!

Me: What are you gonna use for fuel?

Him: I don’t know. I’ll probably be fine. Or I’ll just grab whatever they’re giving out.

Me: What are you gonna WEAR?

Him: Um, shorts and a tech shirt. What do you suggest I wear, a tux? (our language of origin is sarcasm)

This from the man that’s not JUST running the half marathon at Disney this weekend like I am, but the WHOLE GOOFY (yeah, that would be 39.3 miles in two days). I find this both irritating and impressive simultaneously. By the way, at the risk of being link happy in this post, go here if you want to read about his journey of weight loss and fitness. It’s a good read.

In other news, I am suffering from what I am officially naming “taper wobbles”. I don’t think this is a commonly used term but have decided it should be. So here we go with the actual definition:

Taper Wobbles – sudden and strange aches, pains and twinges that appear when a runner is tapering for a major race. Causes no end of worry and heartache.

What do you think of my term and definition? I feel it will catch on. Please tell people you heard it here first;). I have a weird pain on the outside of my knee, a shin splint on my left leg and feel exhausted. Intellectually I’ve been here before (NOT my first rodeo!) but it still concerns me. My last run was Saturday and although I may attempt a short one today, I also may decide to be done and call it good enough. Which will mean on Saturday morning I will convince myself that I actually do not know how to run and may collapse in a heap around mile 1.2. Yes, this is my mania. It’s why I have a counselor.

Scott is currently working in Atlanta and will head straight to Orlando from there leaving me here to secure kids, dog, house, babysitter and finish up work. It’s not his fault. And I’m only martyring myself a little.

If you’re reading this and already headed down safe travels and hopefully I will see you there! I actually still don’t know what I’m wearing for the half and must make that decision today! I will tweet and post it on the FB page (@jenlefforge, FB page here) so you can look for me if you’re running or cheering and say hi!!

It’s almost time! It’s almost time! It’s almost time! I can’t wait to share all of it with you when I get back. Oh, and if you have a long run scheduled for this weekend, run “with” me! And let me know if we’re running at the same time and we can send great thoughts each others way.

Happy Running!

Jen
