Marathon Training Weekly Update Week 11

Just a quick update on my training week!!

Absolutely gorgeous for this morning’s 18 miler!

After a disastrous last week of absolutely zero running mojo and hitting the wall big time and completely skipping last week’s long run due to illness and attitude, this week was better. Still not perfect, but much better.

And I even FELT like running so that’s a huge win!! Marathon training, for me, anyway, is never about perfectly following the program. It’s about doing the best I can with the time, energy and space I can devote and being OK with it. Honestly, if I were a perfectionist about the training plan I think this would be a miserable process.

Having lost my mojo, I was really working on putting away the technology and just running by feel this week. It totally worked!

Here’s how the week went:

Sunday – 30 min cross training. My mom was here so this didn’t get done.
Tuesday – 2 miles on the treadmill. Still was’t feeling great and this was all I could do.
Wednesday – 5 miles, no idea of pace as I did it without timing myself. Felt AMAZING.
Friday – 6 miles, no idea of pace. Again, ran by feel and felt great. Pushed the pace several times and was doing maybe an effort of 7 or 8. Felt good to run fast.
Sunday  – (should have done this Sat but was rained out!) 16.5 miles. Today was supposed to be 18 and I was on pace and feeling great for 15 of it but then it started to fall apart. I could have pushed through but decided to pause my app and walk the 1.5 miles home. So technically, I did complete the 18 but walked the last part. Gonna count it.

Total mileage for the week: 31 miles.

About half way through today, I had a female emergency. I called my 18 yr old son who was still sleeping (Scott’s on a trip) and he got up, sweetly and with zero attitude or “gross mom” comments, got my supplies out of my bedroom and drove them up to the park. As a mom, honestly, these are the moments when I am confident that Scott and I have done a great job with this kid. I think it was one of my proudest moments with him. He’s a great man and he’s going to make a great husband!

It was a gorgeous morning to run and I’m very grateful that I can. Although today’s long run was tough, I had many more moments of “wow, this is amazing” than “please make it stop” so we’re calling it a HUGE win.

Hope your training and running has gone great this week!

Jen
