Marathon Training for the Disney World Marathon Week 13! Home Stretch, Baby!

This was, in fact, a GREAT training week and boy did I need it!! The last several weeks (as those of you who have been following along are aware) have been fraught with blocked goals and missed runs. I was falling short on mileage on low on patience!

But this week it all came together!! Here’s how we rolled:

Sunday – I was supposed to cross train. I didn’t. No excuses just didn’t.
Monday – rest
Tuesday – 3 miles easy (Hal called for 5 but 3 made more sense for me)
Wednesday – 5 miles marathon pace – nailed it! This was my favorite run of the week and maybe of the whole dang training cycle. Awesome.
Thursday – rest
Friday -3 miles easy
Saturday – 19 miles. Did it and stayed under 12 min/mile pace which was EXACTLY where I wanted to be. I don’t know if it was the stellar running weather (mid 50’s with a breeze and dry!), the fact that my friend, Kathleen, joined me for 5 miles of it (MADE THE TIME FLY!), or just that I’m getting more fit, but this run was almost easy. Seriously. I would say the last 1.5 miles were a bit of a mental challenge but my breathing stayed smooth, nothing hurt and I actually was shocked when Hal came on and said “Only 3 miles left!” (which, for me, was only 1.5 miles because the app stopped on me early on and I realized it at about 1.5 miles in so I started over. Yes, doing that math the whole time was lovely;).

With 5 weeks left until race day, I am feeling VERY ready for this race. I went back and checked and I am officially better trained for this marathon than any that have come before it. And the truth is, I could start my taper right now and still be ready. That’s doing a lot for me mentally. Now to just get through my final 20 miler (in 2 weeks) and stay injury free and healthy. Piece of cake, right??

If you haven’t entered yet, the giveaway for the Star War Boxy Bag ends on Sunday so be sure and go here to get that done!! It’s a fun bag that would make a great Christmas gift for the Jedi lover in your life.

Next week is a step back week and I think I only run like 9 next weekend so it’s like a little vacation;)! I hope your training went great this week!!

Happy Running.

Jen
