Irving Half Marathon Training Update!

YOU GUYS!!!!! I am so sorry I have been so quiet. I just started a new job working at The Container Store ! Yes, working there is as amazing as you think it is and YES I am LOVING it!! (quick plug Spring Organization Sale just started so you should come in;)

I haven’t had much time to do much of anything else! If you came over right now and saw my home you would feel sure we had been robbed;). But I wanted to do a quick update on where I am with my training for the Irving Half Marathon coming up (gulp) a WEEK FROM SATURDAY! If you live in the area, it’s not too late to sign up for one of the races and I would LOVE to see you! It’s a fabulous, fast, flat and friendly course. You know, all the good F words. HA!

This race is significant for me for a couple of reasons:

It’s where I achieved my current half PR 2 years ago. (and dangit it’s time to get a new one!)

It’s in my home town (well, the town next to my town so close).

I’ve been working my EVERLOVING TAIL FEATHERS off working on my speed!!

My coach and great friend, Natalie, has been awesome. We’ve had a few bumps in the road during the process, but I’m feeling super confident, especially after last Saturday’s long run.

It was my fastest 12 miler in my 5 years of running according to Run Keeper. Which actually makes me a little nervous (I am superstitious – when the dress rehearsal goes TOO well, I worry about opening night;).

Some of my great running friends with some cows at the inaugural race. Did I mention that’s where I PR’d?

I’m going to really try and push myself for this race. I have a tendency to be overly cautious in races because of fear of running out of steam. This time, I’m really going to lean in to my training and trust myself and my training!

It’s also the first race I’ve done in awhile using the Galloway method. I’ll be doing 3/1 intervals (3 minutes of running, 1 minute of walking) and I’m a little nervous about that, especially in the beginning when the course can be a little congested. But I’m determined to stick to my plan so I’ll just scoot way over to the side.

Do you remember WAY BACK WHEN when I teased that my blog was getting an update?? Well, I think I can safely say we are close. VERY close. And I’m nervous/excited/terrified!! If you’ve ever switched a blog to a new platform you understand my fears – wondering if I should take the time to save all my posts in another platform so none of them get lost in the process? I’ve written over 300 so that would be no small task, but I hate to lose any of my work. It’s the perfect running journal to look back on when I’m forgetting how far I’ve come!! Can’t wait for you all to see the new and improved Running For My Life!

I’m off today and have a fun day planned with a couple of friends (one of whom happens to be my amazing colorist – somebody’s got some wicked roots;). I hope your day is finding you strong, happy, and empowered!!

Happy running!

Jen

  1. Congrats on the new job! I’ve seen them do presentations at conferences on why it’s such a great place to work so I’m happy you have found them. And love hearing someone gearing up to “go for it” at a race. Best of luck to you!

    1. It makes me nervous even typing that!! Like I’m jinxing myself? I can say with all honesty that I’ve NEVER given a race all I had. Always kept a little in the tank just in case. And it truly hasn’t served me great so we’re gonna go big or go home!
