Five Reason Why You Should Run Today

Maybe I should have titled this five reasons why you should complete all your scheduled runs this week since not all of us run on Monday, but I needed a bit of motivation. I have an early meeting on Mondays and typically have to run Monday afternoon so making sure I actually do it can be a struggle. After a long day of meetings my body NEEDS to run but my mind is frequently unwilling. So here we go:

  1. No one ever said “Wow, this day would have been so much better if I had just SKIPPED my run.”
  2. Life is stressful. Running helps with stress.
  3.  Food is good. Running lets you worry less about what you eat and enjoy a meal out every once in awhile without stressing about your weight and BONUS when you’re actively involved in regular exercise you tend to make better food choices.
  4.  Today may not go your way. Some things may happen that you have no control over. You might make some mistakes. But once you’ve completed your run you can check a little box in your mind that says “yeah, I’m awesome. I ran today.”
  5.  If you DON’T run, you’ll just sit on the couch watching Letterman (wait, he’s not on anymore – that shows how long it’s been since I’ve been up that late) and say to yourself “Dangitt, why didn’t I run?”

So there you have it. Now I’m going to work in a bit but when I get home, I’m GOING to go for a run. Get out there and stack up some miles this week, Folks. And don’t forget to thank God that you can. And here’s a little clip about one of my running heroes to motivate you, especially for the ladies but guys, this will motivate you, too. I promise.
