This is the final installment in my WDW Marathon Weekend Trip Report. Such a great weekend, for the most part;). Here’s how to find part 1 , part 2, part 3, and part 4!
We were originally planning on coming home on Monday, but there was an “ice warning” in Atlanta (later turned out to be mostly for people to watch football?) and my “cold” was giving me fits so we decided to add a bonus day!
We secured one night at Old Key West (yes, that’s right, our THIRD resort of this trip), and I was never happier to be somewhere. We checked out of the Boardwalk Villas and I decided I felt well enough to head to DHS. Um, not my best idea.
Now here’s the good part: we had a great morning at the Studios and even snagged a last minute ADR at The Hollywood Brown Derby where I ate the best Vegetarian Pho I’ve ever had in my life. Amazing. Also, I had been craving a salad so Wil and I both had their famous Cobb salad as an appetizer. Yes, this meal (without drinks) came to well over $100 but I was dying for REAL food, not just a sandwich or pizza.
We rode stuff, saw Beauty and The Best, and really did enjoy ourselves. Until I started getting cold again. Like really cold. Teeth chattering cold.
By the time we walked back and got settled in our room at OKW, I knew what was going on. I had the flu.
I called the front desk and they told me to go to the Centre Care on Lake Buena Vista Drive, which is only 10 minutes from OKW. They even volunteered to drive me there but I decided I could handle it on my own. This turned out to be a great idea as their transportation was taking forever to pick people up. In the waiting room: Disney cast members, lots of people in marathon gear, and a few locals.
I’ll spare you the details of my time there, but the doctor and staff were very nice and because I had made an appointment ahead of time, I only waited about 30 minutes to be seen. And yes, the diagnosis was quick: A+ flu.
We then had to venture into Orlando SOMEWHERE (literally no idea where) to get to a 24 hour pharmacy. Oh, and William got an Uber from the hotel to come and pick me up because by this time I had a 103 degree temp and driving was clearly not an option. He’s a good boy.
Tamiflu and Advil taken and back in bed at OKW by 9:30. Because the next day, come hell or high water, we were going home. I wanted my bed, my husband, and my dog. Yes, in that order.
We then drove home for 7 hours, me hyped up on Advil to keep my fever in check and equipped with lots of water and that’s the end. I drove because, honestly, it gave me something to do to keep my mind of how lousy I felt. Scott had offered to fly out and drive us home, but I knew if I just got my head in the game we could do it. The Greatest Showman soundtrack on Spotify helped immensely. Seriously.
Huge thanks to OKW for getting us a room when we really needed it. I really do love it there and if Boardwalk Villas felt like home, then OKW felt like MY home. I love their beds, love the decor, love everything about it. They are currently remodeling the rooms and they better not mess them up. Sara and I are there again in April and I’m thrilled with our choice.
This trip was so fun despite the cold weather and getting the flu. I’m still not 100% well, but I have my warm memories to keep me company. My time with my son was PRICELESS and I know we’ll both remember this trip for a lifetime. Thank you so much for reading! And if you’re thinking of someday doing a WDW marathon weekend, please do! It’s a very different kind of Disney trip, but one you won’t forget.
I still can’t believe you got the flu in Disney. Oof.
Your live tweeting of it was rather amazing though!
Well, one does what one can to stay amused. And I can’t believe it either. So stupid!
