WDW Marathon Trip Report! Coming Soon!

So I just got home about an hour ago and wanted to tell you that I’ll hopefully have some great pics and stories to share later in the week. It was such a great weekend and I have lots to share but here are a few highlights:

  • I finished and got a gorgeous medal (not the time I wanted but oh well)
  • Scott finished and got an equally gorgeous medal (and met Jeff Galloway and told him about his weight loss journey which was AMAZING)
  • 65,000 runners in one weekend is a LOT of people
  • If you’re going to find out while on a racing trip that your house flooded while you were gone make sure you have amazing friends who will make you laugh at dinner even though you feel helpless and worried and awesome girlfriends who will pay for your drinks at a Disney piano bar to ease the blow
  • Running Peeps are amazing
  • Husbands who weren’t all that into running can suddenly be mysteriously converted by one marathon and a PR. And really cool bling. More on that later.

I came home to a house flood from a broken water heater (evidently the twins don’t know how to turn off the water) so things are going to be a little nutsy bo-bo between appointments with insurance people and restoration companies but I really do hope to get some details to everyone on Friday. I didn’t take many pics but lots of my friends did and they’ve all said I could share them with you! Fun!

Let me just say as a teaser that as much fun as I had this year’s race had a few problems. Some that Disney could do nothing about  (the heat) and some that could have been avoided. Run Disney races are amazing but they have gotten SO large that you really have to be in the right frame of mind and know what you’re getting into.

What I LOVE though is that they are approachable for so many first timers that might be intimidated by a race that was more “serious” (this was totally me before my first race). But make no mistake, Disney races are serious – just take a look at the results from Sunday and you’ll see exactly how serious. I heard tons of complaints from runners about how many walkers there were and not because they don’t think walkers belonged on the course just because the course is so narrow in some places and they literally couldn’t get past (although at the end with the heat I think most of us were walkers, honestly). I felt like the 20 mile “surprise” was very weak and the run around Wide World of Sports made me want to punch someone. But other than that? AWESOME.

Ok, more later. Can’t wait, can ya? LOL! Hope you’re all having a great time training this week or, if you just ran a major race over the weekend, that your recovery goes great and you’re back at it in no time!!

Jen
