3 Days in!! How ya doing??

We are 3 days in to our 5K a Day in May challenge!! Some fun things have happened this week and if you’ve been reading my other, more serious posts you know that this girl needs some fun in her life!!

#5KaDayinMay selfie! Woohoo!
  • We have a hashtag! Well, I don’t know if it’s “ours” but many of us are using #5KaDayinMay to tag our selfies, twitter updates and FB posts. Makes us feel like we’re a team and although it’s all sunshine and roses now, come along day 11 we’re going to need each other! (just trust me on this)
  • A bunch of you are doing this as your first step toward daily exercise and that thrills me beyond measure! Truly, so stinking proud of you. They say if you do something consistently for 30 days, it’s a habit. So big high fives all around for making taking care of you a habit!!
  • I’m trying to come up with a way to combine the blog’s 2nd bday (May 18th) with the challenge. Already collecting what I’m giving away and it’s some very cool stuff. Need to figure out that fancy entry deal that all the cool bloggers are using (directions for dummies appreciated;)
  • I’m feeling really good. As in, seriously, having so much fun. I realize it’s only day 3. But so far, so very very good!

A couple tips: try and vary your runs. If you run the same route, same speed, same everything 30 days in a row I’m pretty sure something will start to hurt. Today, for example, I went slow and easy for mile 1, fartleks for mile 2, and then whatever I felt like for mile 3 (ended up being a combo of some pick ups and easy running). Keep it fun! Find a podcast you love (my 2 current faves are The Mickey Miles Podcast and Another Mother Runner), make a new playlist, or unplug and run with no music and really listen to the world around you! The key to making this not monotonous is variety. Oh, and be sure you throw in a couple no GPS runs. Run a route that you know is about 3.2 and just run for joy and fun! Don’t check your time! It’s really freeing and helps you feel like a kid again:).

Keep up the great work, Everybody! And if you want to join us, it’s not too late! Jump on in! The water’s great and we’d love to have you. I’d also love to hear how it’s going! Comment here or on the FB page and tell me how we can support you! Schedule getting in the way? Injury got you down? Weather not cooperating?? We’d love to help!

Happy Running!

Jen
