5K a Day in May – Running the Numbers

I am, by my own admission, NOT great with numbers. I tend to transpose them and have to do even simple math using a calculator. Now I like to think it’s some undiagnosed learning difference (we didn’t test for such things much in the 70’s) but either way, numbers and I don’t always get on.

But the numbers from my last month of activities on Run Keeper, the app I use to track my workouts, are quite wonderful. It’s truly amazing how daily activity adds up!!

Here’s what we’ve got with only 2 days left:

  • Miles covered: 94.5
  • Hours spent: 20:46:31
  • Calories burned: 9,595.5
  • Number of Activities: 31 (a couple days I did a run and a walk so those counted twice)
  • Pounds lost: 3 (didn’t really do this to loose weight but I’ll take it:)
  • Regrets about doing this: 0

I’m no great athlete to be sure. There are many runners who run every day, and even more who do some form of exercise every day. But for me, getting out there and covering the mileage EVERY SINGLE DAY is a big challenge and I’m very proud of my efforts. Friends, I’m just a normal wife and mom with a demanding day job and tons of responsibilities just like you. If I can fit this in my schedule, you can, too, and I promise you, it’s worth doing! If not 7 days a week, at least committing to being more consistent. I’m the type of person that needs a challenge (thus the compulsive racing!) and this has been the perfect way to start my summer running life.

Although I started our running every day, about half way through the month my body was asking for that to stop so I’ve been alternating running and walking days these past couple weeks which has worked great for me. That’s a change from last year’s effort and I’m not sure if I should blame aging, increased life stress, or maybe I wasn’t in as good a shape when we started. Doesn’t really matter as I learned a long time ago that it’s better to listen to my body when it’s using it’s “indoor voice” then when it’s screaming using a megaphone.

I hope some of you were able to complete the challenge with me! I’m off to do some speed work this morning and then tomorrow morning, I’ll do an easy run and celebrate my victory 5K. Might even see if I can find a local race to do to celebrate. Thanks for coming along on the journey!

Happy running.

Jen
