Just today, we finally got some more information about The Riviera Resort at Walt Disney World.
There’s lots to know and I’ll link to this great article so you can go check it out for yourself.
Here’s what’s interesting: a new booking category of what seems to be a VERY tiny room with only a pull down queen Murphy bed (think the Pop Century rooms without the, um, OTHER BED) that ONLY accommodates two people?!?!
Very interesting move. My assumption is that Disney is trying to address the fact that studios seem to be the most popular booking category and also the most difficult to get at 7 months.
In addition to the new booking category, you have the new resale restrictions that mean if you buy on the resale market in one of the original 12 resorts you cannot book at Riviera (or any resort built thereafter) and if you buy resale at Riviera (when that becomes an option) you won’t be able to stay at any of the original 12.
Are you confused yet? I’m not surprised. I am, too! Now, the new resort will ALSO have Deluxe Studios that sleep 5, 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom and Grand Villas, so in that regard it’s much like the rest of the DVC properties, but these tower rooms fascinate me.
More to come . . what are your thoughts? Will DVC be able to sell lots of low point contracts? And what will the per night points be for these tiny studios?? My husband’s comment was they really ARE trying to re-create the European experience, including the tiny rooms. I am intrigued. And I have booked a cash stay for opening week because it’s for the blog. At least that’s what I told my husband and he bought it.
If you’re curious about Disney Vacation Club, make sure you check out the entire playlist on the YouTube channel and I promise I’ll be adding some Riviera content soon!
I’m intrigued too. We are heading down December/January 2020 and I’m hoping we can snag a one bedroom to try it out. Also curious about the grand villas for my friend trip in June 2020. The Tower rooms will be perfect for short stays with my daughter for run Disney or with hubby. People on the disboards are very negative but I think DVC is reinventing themselves. They are considering the wider definition of family—lots of two people families out there as people have fewer or no kids. I think the units look comfortable and luxurious. Waiting on point charts which I think will be high, unfortunately. I still love the value of IKW and AKV. Can’t beat those point charts. Those are the places I end up most as my points stretch at those resorts.
I am actually super interested to see the rooms themselves because we take lots of different kids of vacations, and when I’m traveling solo or just with Scott, and if the points requirement is right, these might be a great option! And I always like to see how things play out before I go negative. Seems to have served me well over the years, LOL! Thanks for reading and commenting, Andrea!
Jen,
As a solo-traveler or for a mother-daughter trip, I am interested in staying in a tower studio room., but wonder if the pull-down bed would be comfortable. Currently, I usually stay at the Boardwalk Inn and absolutely love the amenities and service at the resort, but do wish more options for a quick service lunch by the pool. The Riveria resort seems to have some more options for food and having access to the Skyliner make this an interesting option for me. I am not a DVC member but would consider staying if it was less expensive than the Boardwalk. Well, maybe a split stay because I love the Epcot resort area as an adult in Disney. Anxiously awaiting your YouTube videos of the resort!!
Kimberly – I literally just got off the phone with Disney Vacation Club and am hoping to get into a studio for a tour next weekend so stay tuned!
