Once again today, I’m linking up with Tuesdays on The Run! You have to go check it out and read all the other great bloggers as they share on THEIR favorite bling. There’s lots of sparkle shine there, Friends!
So I have friends who just about run ONLY for the bling, and although I wouldn’t go that far, I do love me a nice race medal.
So for today’s topic, they asked us to write about our 5 favorite pieces of bling, I just had to participate!
Because although every race is special in its own way (some simply because you survived!) there are a few medals I find myself going back and looking at again and again. And typically, it’s not just because it’s so pretty (although that helps) but also because of the memories of a particular event that have stuck with me.
I’m going to go David Letterman style and start backward.
5. This Year’s Wine and Dine Medal – you can go read about why that race will ALWAYS stay in my memory here, but I also love that it spins and it’s just pretty!!
We all get extra points for earning this one! |
4. My Glass Slipper Challenge Medal – this one is by FAR the most “girly” one I have, and I just can’t resist the beautiful shoe. Also, this was an amazing weekend with friends so I’ll always remember earning it!
The one on the far right. PRECIOUS to me! |
3. My Dumbo Double Dare Medal – as a kid, I LOVED Dumbo and so did my boys. There’s just something about that sweet elephant. Add to that the fact that this was my first challenge, and it makes this medal EXTRA special. Also the fact that it was at my “home” park (I was born just a few miles from Disneyland) makes me love it so.
Look at that first one – precious little Dumbo!! (oh, the 10K medal here almost made the list. Love me some Alice!) |
This was my 2nd marathon but it was BY FAR my favorite. I loved the city, I loved the way I felt running in the city, and the whole experience was just amazing.
1. My 2010 RnR Dallas Medal (no trip report for this one – it was before I was blogging!)
Ironically, this is the least “blingy” of my medals but this was my first half marathon. MY FIRST!! I will never forget the feeling I had when I started, when it got hard, and when it was almost over and I realized I was actually going to finish. This one will always receive a place of honor among my bling.
Collecting bling is fun, but training for and running races is actually even better. I’m not one to pick a race JUST because of the bling (well, except for maybe the Dumbo Double Dare), but if you’re going to put in the long hours of training and work your tail feathers off, you might as well have something beautiful to show for it.
Can’t wait to earn many more!! Although I am definitely going to need a new medal hanger. This one is full!!
Happy running and bling collecting!
Jen
Awesome bling! And the first medal from any distance is pretty darn cool. Thanks for linking up!
The Dumbo Double Dare is on my list of races to do.I love all the Disney challenge. -L
You must do it! It’s very pricey (which is why I won’t do it again) but so fun to do once! I love the races in CA!
What better way to be motivated than with bling 🙂 Running’s great but it’s a bonus when the medal is awesome.
So agree!! won’t make up for a horrible course or bad race support, but sure does make you feel good when they slip that puppy around your neck!!

Great medals! I actually didn’t get a medal at all for my first half (long ago!) and I always wished that they had given something as a memento! Thanks for linking up with us today!
