Queen Elizabeth is 90 years old. And I have just finished watching all 10 episodes of The Crown which, as we know, makes me an expert on Queen Elizabeth.
I have decided to follow her example for my health and wellness for 2017. Here’s what I have learned:
Take A Lot of Walks
I knew this about her before I watched the Crown. Walking, preferably in the country, is very good for you. If it’s raining, all the better. Note to self: buy wading boots and a jaunty rain hat. Walking helps you work things out and keeps you from hurting people. Running does this, too, but I have a hard time picturing her running. Bottom line, move daily and often.
Drink Tea
Lots and lots of tea. As we know, it’s full of anti-oxidants and helps with inflammation. I will be drinking lots more tea. With milk and a bit of sugar unless there’s a crisis because then you need it to be “heavily sugared”. I don’t know why.
Have wine with dinner.
Yes, it appeared they had wine every evening with dinner. But not too much. Just a glass, or two if it’s a celebration. Note that you never see her drinking hard liquor unless someone’s died or something. I think this speaks to drinking in moderation.
Have dogs and treat them like family.
She is famously in love with her animals. As am I. So this one I’ve already nailed.
Always be Curious
One characteristic that comes out clearly in the show (which I am positive is 100% accurate) is how comfortable she is with seeking out information when she doesn’t know something. We should never stop learning. If there’s a world conflict, a scientific discovery, or a new Broadway show that I don’t know about, I’m going to research it. If I can’t find the information I will find someone who understands it to explain it to me.
Say very little. Except for when you have to.
Ah, this one is a big one for me. I say A LOT. Far too much, in fact. She doesn’t say much but when she speaks, she means it. I want to be like that. I want to be slow to form opinions and be a better listener. She clearly trained herself to be this way so I feel I can, too.
If your husband gets out of line, send him to Australia.
Just kidding. Although . . .
In short, she is brilliant. And her longevity has proven that her way of life is a healthy one. So now, as the dear girl is struggling with her “heavy cold”, let’s all send her well wishes. I may call 2017 my Elizabethan year. But only because that sounds really cool and makes me feel quite important. I won’t be wearing a crown. Well, except for if any state occasions should arise. One never knows.
Every girl bas a tiara……and we have worn ours together — proudly earned!!! (She also has a chauffer and that may be good for you too since I have experienced you being directionally challenged–ironically while we were wearing our tiaras!!!
Who, me?? Uh, yes, you are correct. A driver would be brilliant (said with appropriate British accent).
