If Girls Ran The World How I’m Becoming an Everyday Hero for Save The Children

Most of us have seen the pictures and read the stories. Stories of sweet precious children washing up on beaches and being the victims of unthinkable violence. They are innocent victims of hatred and evil. And until now, I felt quite helpless to do any good.

But last week, I started a team for If Girls Ran the World. And you know what we’re doing? We’re going to be running and walking (a LOT) from October 1 – October 31 to benefit Save The Children. With every mile, money will be going to these smallest of victims to give them food, water, shelter, and safety.

I live in a safe home in a lovely suburb with plenty of food and almost no fear for my personal safety. I certainly don’t fear that I will need to flee my home in the middle of the night or that we won’t have adequate food or water.

I shared this video recently and when I watched it, something in me changed towards this whole crisis. Take a look:

Does that make it feel closer to home? Does it help you identify more with these precious children? It really did me. So, as an old friend used to say at the end of every meeting at work, what are our ACTION STEPS?

Consider joining my team! I get nothing out of it. But I’d love the company and it will be fun to cheer each other on in our goals! You can walk or run and the mileage goal you choose is up to you.

Consider donating to my efforts. Again, this is not a sponsored post, and I’m hoping that the fact that I have this little blog will give more exposure to this issue and YES raise more MONEY. Because they need money. I’ve researched Save The Children (you should, too) and feel very confident that every dime we give is going to help kids.

Share this post on every media outlet you have available to you. I’m not kidding. Go do it. Right now. Because it’s easy and you know how and you never know who might see it and be moved to give or to run or to get involved (and yes, great causes make me type run on sentences with too few commas).

I hope you’ll join me for one of the above and that you’ll share it and repost it and get the word out every way possible! I don’t mind asking boldly because I know that even in my safe suburb, I can make a difference and so can you.

Happy running!

  1. This IS a great cause and I am sharing for you! Running has so much more meaning when you can do what you love and help those in need. Save the Children is a wonderful organization and you friend are a hero for partnering with them! Good luck to you!!!

  2. How do I join your team? I was looking into this the other day and got side tracker- forgetting that I wanted to sign up. Would love to join in if I can!
