First Signs and Symptoms of Dementia

After talking with several clinicians I decided to make this video highlighting our first signs and symptoms that indicated my mom had dementia. Every situation is different and I am not an expert in this field so please know this was OUR experience. For more information and to get free counsel for yourself or for help with someone you love, call the Alzheimer’s Support Line at 800-272-3900 – I’ve personally reached out to them and found them to be an incredible resource with trained counselors that can help you navigate. We hope to have many more years of joyful memories with mom and I’m grateful for my channel to be able to spread awareness and hopefully bring some clarity to anyone struggling with what can at times feel like an impossible road.

  1. Thank you for sharing you and your family’s experience with dementia. I’m ineffectively navigating my mother’s dementia, from a great distance (3k miles) and as an only child. The similarities of my mom not being able to use a phone (or her oven), navigate a computer, and getting lost driving or walking “familiar” territory are a constant. My mom will not include me in anything medical, and she refuses traditional science-based medicine now. This has complicated my ability to support her. She recognizes her mental decline, however she thinks it is due to the 5G network. I am struggling to know what to do and how to be with her, as she cannot fathom that her symptoms may be due to multiple conditions, including dementia. It is super complicated for me, as she shifted her life/political/values perspectives and narratives over the last 12 years. Early on I was thinking her shift to a political Cheeto cult and sudden belief in conspiracies was making her unrecognizable. But I see now it’s compounded by her medical condition – her inability to engage in actual balanced dialogue, she repeats stories multiple times during a phone call, and every event just happened yesterday. I am continuing to be myself – a liberal, educated, vaccinated, equity and inclusive seeking person – who values true democracy, the rights of all, and resists misogynist, oligarchs. Just like she raised me. I will look for your following videos on this topic, to understand more.
